The classical system of in-shop Apprentice, to itinerant Journeyman, to final professional recognition within the community as a practicing Master.
It was an extraordinary journey,
and an enormous tragedy that it has died out; university art departments are a shallow substitute.

Goldman was one of the last architectural sculptors, collaborating with architectural firms in the Beaux Arts Prix de Rome tradition. Goldman was apprentice to Samuel Cashwan, who was journeyman to Antoine Bourdelle, who was journeyman to Auguste Rodin.

Szukalski was the National Sculptor of prewar Poland.

Anderson was a metaphysical poet and painter in the Beat scene of postwar Florida.
